Why Choose a G7 Master Facility?

Increasingly, working with a G7 Master Facility has become a must for any print branding project. If you’re unfamiliar, G7 is a method of achieving color consistency. According to its creator, Idealliance,  “the G7 method outlines an easy-to-follow recipe for implementing ISO printing standards and additional metrics. The result is a simple but powerful way to match from proof to press.”

Our in-house G7 Expert, Elizabeth, offers her insights into the process below.

What is a G7 Expert?
A G7 Expert has demonstrated expertise in the field of color management, process, and quality control for proofing and printing utilizing the G7 methodology.  They are able to analyze color and print related issues and take the necessary corrective action.

What is a G7 Master facility?
A G7 Master is a company that has been trained to use the G7 methodology.  They use the most modern technology, techniques, proofing and press controls, and standards required to produce a close visual match from proof to print as stated by Idealliance.

Why does color matter?
Color matters because it’s an important part of why people embrace or reject a brand. It is one of the most emotional attributes of any given brand and enhances the customer experience with any product.  Color consistency across a brand establishes and reinforces the quality for the brand while also establishing trust.  Consequently, inconsistency in brand color can damage brand loyalty. It literally could make or break your brand!

How do you ensure color consistency?
Color consistency starts with file management and ends with press management. Files should be prepared per brand standards. It’s important to keep all design programs consistent with each other. (ie versions, color working space, etc).  All press equipment should be kept up on calibrations, maintenance, etc.  Following the G7 methodology is the most important part of keeping color consistent on press through all printing processes.

Describe the G7 certification process.
The certification process can be quite painless as long as you are ready for it.  All equipment should be in tip top shape, meaning if any repairs need to be done, they should be taken care of.  All inks, stock, and consumables should be fresh and full.  A G7 Expert is required to run the certification and teach any operators as they do so.  The process consists of running and measuring sheets based on the standards and making adjustments from there.

What made you want to become a G7 Expert?
I was battling color consistency issues across several different printing processes, ink sets and media types for a long time. In my search for answers I found the G7 program through Idealliance.  I decided to become a G7 Expert so I could really dive into why I was having the issues I was having and how to fix them in the long-term. The most appealing part of G7 is the fact that it’s universal across all printing processes.  I also wanted to be able to do the certifications myself and help others understand and utilize G7.

What is your favorite part of the job?
My favorite part about the job is problem solving. In printing there are many different variables that could affect the end result and there’s nothing more satisfying than troubleshooting an issue to resolution.

Why should a company choose a G7 Master facility?
Choosing a G7 Master should really be a requirement for all brand owners. By choosing a G7 Master you are ensuring that your brand will print consistent through any and all printing processes.  As stated earlier, brand consistently is extremely important for the consumer and as a brand owner you want to make sure you’re choosing the right printer to make this happen for you. By choosing a G7 Master you are choosing a printer that has proven they have the technology and expertise to get this done for you.
